The Anatolian Shepherd
is native to Asia Minor. Historically, the Anatolian Shepherd
was used as a fighting dog in war and also as a hunting dog.
Nowadays it is still used as a sheep dog as well as a guard dog.

Coat:
Anatolian Shepherd
Dogs require little grooming. The coat needs thorough brushing
during the shedding season (twice a year).
Training:

Dogs are loyal, intelligent and easy to train, however confident
handling is necessary.
Temperament:
They will show
affection to their own family, but can be wary of strangers.
These dogs make good guard dogs. They are also generally good
with children but supervision is recommended. These dogs have
strong protection instincts. They will generally get along with
other animals however they can sometimes show dominant
tendencies towards other dogs. It is important to socialize them
while they are still young. These dogs are not suitable for
apartment living.
Exercise:
This breed needs a lot
of exercise and long daily walks are recommended.
Health:
Anatolian Shepherd
Dogs can be prone to eyelid entropion (turning in of the eyelid)
or hypothyroidism. Hip dysplasia can also sometimes occur.
